Truphena Selected for World Youth Choir Tour
Kenyan vocalist Truphena Melvine, a gifted mezzo-soprano, has been chosen as the only Kenyan representative in this year’s World Youth Choir Tour, set to take place in Spain and France from July 13–31, 2025.
For Truphena, this opportunity is a dream come true. “This is more than just a dream; it’s a chance to share my voice with the world, learn from incredible musicians, and bring a piece of home with me everywhere I go,” she says.
A Rising Star in Kenya’s Music Scene
Truphena last performed with Baraka Opera Kenya (BOK) in the Christmas opera Amahl in December 2024. Recently, she held a fundraising concert at WEAL House, where she mesmerized the audience with her ethereal voice—a performance that not only showcased her talent but also helped raise funds for her upcoming tour.
The event was graced by BOK CEO Rhoda Wilhelmsen, who praised Truphena’s artistry, saying, “This was a brilliant reflection of the rising quality of music-making in Kenya today.” As a gesture of support, BOK presented her with a gift to help her “truly fly” on this global stage.
Gratitude and Growth
Overwhelmed by the support, Truphena expressed her heartfelt appreciation: “A huge thank you to Baraka Opera Kenya for their generous support toward my concert—it truly meant the world to me. And to the incredible Rhoda Ondeng, thank you for standing with me and being present at the concert despite having just landed that same week. Your support and kindness moved me deeply.”
Reflecting on her journey, she added, “I’m also so grateful for the opportunity to be part of last year’s Amahl opera—a journey that opened up immense musical and personal growth. May God bless you all richly. I carry this love and encouragement with me as I continue to pursue this dream.”
