The Junior Boys Choir (JBC) is an inspiring initiative by Baraka Opera Kenya (BOK), whose operations through performances, educational programs, and outreach initiatives aims to make the arts accessible while complementing Kenya’s Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.

Inspired by the Vienna Boys` choir movement, JBC is more than just a choir—it’s a transformative movement that nurtures young boys from diverse backgrounds in Siaya County. By combining music training with life skills, leadership, and mentorship, we empower boys to grow into confident, disciplined, and responsible young men.

Vision

To build a generation of confident, responsible, and disciplined young men who use music as a force for good in their communities.

Mission

To nurture musical talent, character, and leadership in boys through structured choral training, mentorship, and community engagement.

Core Objectives

  • Provide high-quality musical training to boys aged 8–16.

  • Instill discipline, self-confidence, and teamwork.

  • Offer mentorship on academic, personal, and social development.

  • Use music as a platform for cultural exchange and community impact.

Program Highlights

  • Weekly Training Sessions: Professional vocal coaching, sight-reading, and ensemble singing.

  • Biblical Teachings & Life Skills: Lessons on self-awareness, leadership, and responsible behavior.

  • Community Performances: Concerts in schools, churches, and social events to build confidence.

  • Mentorship & Guidance: Sessions with music professionals, educators, and guest speakers.

  • Special Events: Annual December concert, parent engagement forums, seminars, and workshops.

Our Achievements

  • Reached over 50 boys in rural and peri-urban communities since inception.

  • Held successful public performances, including at St. Peters ACK Cathedral and Mentorship Program launch by 1st Daughter, Ms. Charlene Ruto, both in Siaya.

  • Built strong partnerships with schools, parents, and local leaders.

  • Positively impacted boys through character development and empowerment programs.

Impact on Society

JBC serves as a beacon of hope in communities affected by idleness, peer pressure, and a lack of positive role models. Through our programs, boys have:
